2011 Fire School 101

On April 30th, Local 1696 hosted its Fifth Annual Fire School. It was another successful operation, and the students were again very impressed with the UFA. The guests were shown scenarios based on a day in the life of a firefighter. Medical and fire simulations were performed. The highlight for those in attendance was to fight a fire, defensively, in a mobile home.

The guests were grateful for the opportunity to spend a day on the training grounds, and went away with a new found respect for the firefighting profession. They also left with

new information about why we ask for increased staffing and top of the line equipment. The goal of fire school has always been to demonstrate why it is better to have more firefighters on each piece of apparatus.

Why Fire School?

Each of the fire schools have been extremely successful in their own way. Each year more of our elected officials are better educated by attending fire school. Fire school helps us to build stronger allies within the ranks of those that make up our governing board. Hopefully, this information transforms into better benefits, increased staffing, and a continued commitment to making Unified Fire Authority the best department in the state.

Thank you and job well done to Dustan Dinkel as the main coordinator. Also big thanks to those that volunteered one of their days off to help out with this important program.
