Government and Politics

As an employee of a special district government, your conditions of employment are largely defined by state and local lawmakers.  Often these lawmakers do not have the best interests of their employees in mind when crafting and passing legislation, but rather focus on their budget's bottom lines.

 

Local 1696 and the PFFU are actively engaged in educating lawmakers so that they are aware of the interests of the public safety providers.  Political lobbying occurs at the local, state and national levels.

2011 Fire School 101

 

On April 30th, Local 1696 hosted its Fifth Annual Fire School. It was another successful operation, and the students were again very impressed with the UFA. The guests were shown scenarios based on a day in the life of a firefighter. Medical and fire simulations were performed. The highlight for those in attendance was to fight a fire, defensively, in a mobile home.
